What an amazing day we had with Class 5 of Bradworthy on May 20th.
We hired an ex Marine to come and spend the day with us on Survival Training. Half the class joined us in the morning and the other half for the afternoon. After a short trek down to a wooded area of field, beside a small stream, we found our Marine waiting for us. Rowland is very experienced with what he does. He showed us how to make fire, how to use what nature provides us with to wash our hands, how to prepare stream water to make it drinkable, how to prepare and cook a Meal Worm Omelette and how to prepare and eat Locust !! The children were amazing and took part when asked, even eating Locust and the Meal Worm omelette. They had an Army Ration Pack for lunch and were shown how to prepare it with its special steaming bag. The children were also taught how to respect what they are eating and about different cultures around the world.
Definitely something we would love to host again.

- learning different and unusual ways to light a fire.
- learning how to survive off the land
- learning what to eat and what not to eat.
My favorite out of them all was learning what to eat as we got to eat weird and unusual things.
All in all it was a great day at Julian's Farm and I just wanted to say a big thank you to the people who organised the day and experience all the things.
Jenny,
Andrew,
Roly and the Teachers for helping have wonderful afternoon!
Roly showed us how to light fires and how to prepare locust.
I was really surprised you didn't have to do any thing to the meal worms, all you did was put it in your mouth and chewed!
highlight was when Roland twisted the head off of
some locusts, pulled it off with the guts and then
some people ate them! I learnt a lot from the dem-
onstrations and I was surprised at how enjoyable
& generous the ration packs were.
