Care farmers last day

Yesterday saw the last day for our 3rd group of Care farmers. Another 6 weeks done, I don't know where the time has gone!

It was a lovely but sad morning yesterday, as our group 3 Care farmers from Holsworthy College finished their 6 week session with us here at Julians farm.

We did our usual morning jobs - chickens and calves.  We went to check on the weaned calves who have moved fields and we also wen to check on our cow called Coombe and her new baby calf, who was born on sunday morning. All were fine !  We bedded up the big shed ready for our last 12 calves to go into next week when the last pen is fully weaned.

After snack time, we went for a lovely walk down to the Culm grassland and surrounding fields, to show the students whats been happening down there in recent weeks.  The digger has done some great jobs, opening up gate places, repairing tracks, clearing ditches etc.  The fencing team have been really busy too, fencing the Culm into individual parcels, as part of our Higher Level Stewardship scheme.  This means we can graze/manage the ares much better than before.  This is a area of the farm the students haven't had access to until this point.

We finished the morning by weeding the vegetable plots and watering in the polytunnel.  The students have done a great job in looking establishing and looking after these vegetable plots.  They all went home with some rhubarb!

Just before we left the farm to go back to school, we presented the students with a certificate each, for either Hard Work; being Team Spirited or Working out of their Comfort Zone.

Well done to you all group 3 and have a great summer !
