Care Farmers market visit

This morning saw our last visit with our Group 4 Care Farmer students.

So, another 6 weeks of Care farming visits has drawn to an end.  We cannot believe where the time has gone.

The students came to the farm to do their usual morning jobs, then we headed off to Kivells market, Holsworthy for the rest of the morning.

Mr James Morrish met us and gave us a talk on the history of the market, staff numbers, turnover per week both of livestock and money and showed the students the photo and letters from Princess Anne who officially opened the market earlier this year.

We then made our way to the calf ring, where we watched some selling and also went to look at the young calves.  We then made our way through the Dairy Cows to the Store Ring.  Here we watched the beef cattle being sold and Mr David Kivell kindly invited the students to join him up in the rostrum, to see the people bidding !

We then made our was over to the sheep, where there were rams, store lambs and ewes, all of which had already been sold.  A quick handwash stop, a photo by the Kivells sign and it was back to school.

Group 4, you have been brilliant, thank you !
