Our Care Farming sessions with Holsworthy Community College have started again.
Wednesday morning the first of our 2017 Care Farming students join us from HCC.
They were a mix of Year 7 and Year 9 students, some who have been out to us before on last years project.
We started off with feeding all the cattle, as we are still in winter work mode and all stock are indoors. We netted up some logs, went to see the sheep we have in on winter grass keep, bedded up the cubical building and then went off to Kivells Market for their Spring Show and Sale.
We set the student a challenge in the calf ring. They picked a few lot numbers and wrote them down, together with a price which they think that calf will make. I will then ring Kivells on monday morning to find out the exact prices and there will be a prize for the student who guessed the closest. We also went in the store ring but it was very busy, so we went over to the sheep section and saw some lovely little lambs.
The students are now writing a blog for the school newsletter each week about what they have been up to. I lok forward to reading it !
