care farming update group 4

So, group 4 of our care Farmers have had a busy couple of weeks down on the farm.  Here's an update of what they have been up to.

Week 2 started with our usual jobs: cleaning and moving the chickens, feeding the bull and a group of weaned calves and checking some stock in the fields.  Then we have great fun getting wet!  The students worked really well and really hard, cleaning our and cleaning the shippen, ready for more calves in the new year.  Andrew had already used a bobcat machine to do the hard work, but the students were wetting it all down, brushing it all out, cleaning troughs, hay racks, drinking troughs and walls.  Its now looking great!

Week 3 started the same but then we had Richard Waters from Harpers Feeds join us to talk about our silage analysis he did for us and the implications of it for our winter feeding management.  It was a very informative talk, we all learnt a lot !  Then we finished the morning by bagging up some logs into nets, ready to sell in the autumn/winter.  Another great day, well done group 4 !
