After the Easter holidays, we welcomed back some of our group 2 Care Farmers from Holsworthy Community College.
This morning saw the return of some of our previous Care Farming students and they were a pleasure to have on farm. They worked so hard, so well together and their behaviour was brilliant.
We now have 20 calves on farm which we feed with 3 litre bottles. Feeding this lot takes a fair bit of time time, as well as cleaning them out, bedding up with clean straw, filling their hay racks with fresh golden straw and feeding their nibblets.
Richard, our Nutritionist from Harpers, came out today and we set about weighing all the calves.
We look for an average daily weight gain of 0.8kg/day. The calves have not been weighed for 3 weeks and the vast majority were achieving this growth rate, some even exceeding it by putting on upto 1.2kg/day, which is fantastic. The students must take some credit for this with all their hard work each week on looking after the calves.
Another great morning, well done!
