Last Wednesday saw our Holsworthy College Care farmers come out for their 2nd session. Here's what we got up to.
We started by feeding all the animals their breakfast, then went up to the fields to see the sheep we have in on winter grass keep. As we got to the field, the owner, Mark, had just turned up on his quad to see them too. We found 1 sheep had lambed, a single lamb. Both were fine. We went off to count and check on the others and realised another sheep was missing. We found her in the next field, with triplets !! Luckily, despite the bad weather, all 3 lambs were well and of similar size. Mark went home to fetch the trailer and took mum and babies home to look after.
The next job of the morning was to clean out the chickens house completely, use a sanitiser powder and all fresh sawdust and bedding. We then caught each chicken in turn, checked them over and gave them a dusting with special, non toxic mite powder, for prevention purposes. Then we added some vitamin liquid to their drinking water.
After a drink and snack, the boys then went bagging logs, bedding up the cubicals and getting some pens ready for calves.
Another great morning, well done !
