On Wednesday morning we had our Holsworthy College Care Farmers join us for their 3rd week.
We started the morning with feeding the new calves their milk, so we talked about the correct weight of milk powder to the correct quantity of hot water. We also talked about the importance of keeping all the bottles/teats/buckets clean.
We then fed the rest of the cattle, fed the chickens and bedded up the cubicals. We cleaned out the calves and gave them fresh bedding too.
At 11am we had Oli, a Vet from Penbode join us for an hour. He talked to the students about calf health and hygiene, what symptoms to look out for if a calf may be unwell and how to make them better again. The students had the opportunity to get in with the calves, listen to their heart/lungs with a stethoscope and take their temperatures. We discussed what the "normal temperature" would be.
The finished the morning by bagging up some more logs and sawdust.
The students all earned an achievement point today as they were very well behaved and listened well to talk/instructions. Well done !!
