Okehampton girls come farming

The last 2 Friday's have seen us welcome 6 Okehampton College girls to Julians, on their Care Farming project.

Our mornings begin as normal, with feeding the animals, the chickens and the calves. Cleaning out, bedding up and tidying the shippen.

Last Friday Richard from Harpers Feeds joined us and talked about animal nutrition. It was a very informative hour and the girls were really keen to ask lots of questions, which was great.

This week, we did the usual's and then went off to Kivells Market, Holsworthy to get a tour of the market from James Morrish. This was also very informative, especially as none of the girls had been to a market before.  James talks about the cost of building the market, the work of Kivells and local Farmers, the history of the market, safety improvements over the years, turn-over and about each area of the market, for sheep/pigs/beef/dairy cattle.

I have been very impressed with how well the girls are working together and enjoying their visits to us ! Keep up the good work.
