Okehampton week 3

We had the pleasure of our Okehampton Care Farmers again this morning and we had a special visitor join us too.

Richard, a nutritionist from Harpers Feeds joined us for a while this morning to talk to the students about our calves, their milk powder, their rumen's, nibblets, health and importance of hygiene.

The students got to mix up the milk and feed the calves as their first job and boy, were the calves hungry today ! 3 litres of milk does not last very long.  It was during this session that Richard spoke to us all.

After the calves were fed, we then fed the rest of the animals and chickens, cleaned the chickens out, bedded up the cubicals and the cleaned out and bedded up the calves too.  We then weighed each calf with a special weighing tape.  This information is recorded, as we can analyse how well the calves are growing.  We aim for 0.8 kg or more per day.

The last job of the morning was to bag up some silage sheet ready for the recycle lorry to take away in the autumn.

2 achievement points were earned today.  Lets see how many can be earned next week !
