A busy weekend down on the farm.
Its that time of year again, when the first cut of grass can be taken off for silage, providing food for the cattle in the winter.
First it has to be cut and spread to allow for drying, then its rowed up and the Forage harvester comes in, chops the grass into 1-2 inch long pieces, blows it into big trailers which are towed back to the farm where the grass is tipped into a silage pit. When the pit is full, its then covered in special heavy duty black plastic sheeting and covered in tyres to stop the wind blowing it off.
Its then left till the winter time when it provides food for the cattle whilst they are housed.
