Yr 8 Survival day

on June 13th, Yr 8 of Holsworthy Community College came for their annual Survival day/Resilience training and what a day they had !

It was awesome. The students arrived at camp after doing an orienteering course and after a health and safety briefing, were split into 2 groups. One group went with Roli to learn all about fires, whilst the other group stayed with Peter and had a go at making bashers/shelters with a tarp, some bungee strings and a few poles. After an hour, we stopped for a quick break, then swapped groups.

After lunch, we went into team building games and boy did they get wet !!! They had to fill a pipe up with water, to make the ball inside the pipe rise to the top. Simple enough. But...the pipes had lots of holes and slits over it ! The group who won did so in record time and really impressed Roli and Peter by their team skills. Not all teams finished but the majority of students got wet trying and they all had great fun too.

We finished with a knot tying challenge. Every student had to learn how to tie a particular knot onto a length of wood.  Then, in teams, it was a race for each student to come to the pole, tie the knot correctly, then run to the end. Once everyone in that team had completed the knot and got to the end, the challenge was over. But...one team tried to cheat so were disqualified and the team who came second were the actual winners!
